Real Men Wear Pink and 9/11 Honor

On Friday, September 9, 2011, Central A&M High School will hold their annual Real Men Wear Pink game and will honor the ten year anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy.   The pre-game show will include a tribute to those who lives were taken on September 11, 2001.  Military personnel and emergency personnel; police, fireman, EMT, etc. who attend the game in their uniform will be admitted free of charge.

The Central A&M Student Council is again sponsoring activities for the Real Men Wear Pink campaign through St. Mary’s Hospital.  “Real Men Wear Pink” is St. Mary’s “Breast Cancer Awareness Month” effort to encourage women to get yearly mammograms if they are 40 years of age or older.  This is the 4th Annual St. Mary’s “Real Men Wear Pink” campaign.  This year, an estimated 178,480 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer and an estimated 40,460 will die from the disease.  In addition, about 2,030 men will also be diagnosed with breast cancer.  Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed non-skin cancer in women, and the second leading cause of cancer death (after lung cancer).

On Friday, September 9, 2011 the Raiders of Central A&M will put their pink on to aid in the fight against breast cancer.  During the Tolono Unity vs Central A&M football game there will be several opportunities for fans to not only raise awareness in our community, but to also donate to the “Real Men Wear Pink” campaign.  St. Mary’s provided each team with RMWP t-shirts and the coaches with polo shirts.  Pink gel breast cancer awareness bracelets and educational information will be available at the game.  Coach Ramsey will be in pink and is encouraging all fans to wear pink in support of the cause against breast cancer.  All breast cancer survivors are encouraged to attend the game and be recognized during the half time ceremony.

Student Council is again sponsoring the Raiders for the Cure Bike Ride on Saturday, September 10, 2011.  Anyone who ordered a “Raiders for the Cure” t-shirts will be able to pick up their shirts at the game on Friday night.  You may still sign up to ride on Saturday, but bike ride t-shirts will not be available for purchase.  Please call the high school for information.

Please come and join the Raiders in their fight against breast cancer!!!!
