School
Board Reorganization
The new
Board of Education will be seated following the official canvassing by
the County Clerks of the April 5 Consolidated Election. The date for the
Reorganization meeting will be April 26, 2011 in the high school library
at 8:00 p.m. Three four-year seats will be filled in the election from
the following list of candidates:
Dawnna Corzine
Dennis Zindel
Renea Smith
Eric Bender
The Reorganization meeting will involve seating the new board members,
the election of officers, and setting the dates and times for the Board
of Education meetings.
Sales
Tax
Also on
the April 5 ballot will be a vote for or against a 1% facility tax. The
Shelbyville Chamber of Commerce and the Shelby County Farm Bureau have
affirmed their support for the resolution. The monies, if the resolution
is passed, can only be used to help retire bonds (which could make a
slight reduction in property taxes) and to fund repair/building projects
in the district. If you have questions regarding this issue on the
ballot, please call the District Office at 226-4042.

Calendar Waiver
Hearing
A
calendar waiver hearing is scheduled for April 26 at 7:45 p.m. at the high
school. The purpose of the meeting is to propose allowing for the waiver of
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Casimir Pulaski Day, Columbus Day, and Veterans’
Day, which would allow student attendance on those days. While each of the
holidays could be waived with the approval of the Board, the days could also be
selectively implemented into a calendar, as they are currently. Input from the
public will be encouraged at the hearing.
