Introduction to Freehand
Tutorial

Macromedia's Freehand is one of the programs we now have available at school.  At first, Freehand can be confusing to use, but with a few instructions I think you will find it an interesting and effective program to use.  It has many fun features to play around with.  This tutorial is intended as an introduction to Freehand.  It will by no means make you an "expert".  This should provide you with the introductory skills you need to investigate more of the possibilities of Freehand on your own.

In this tutorial, we will look at some of the tools and panels of Freehand.  At the end of the Freehand tutorial, you will design a project.  Be thinking about something you would like to try as you work with the tools and panels.

Toolbar

The toolbar above is labeled.  Several of the tools perform more than one function.  As we come to those tools, we will look at the options available.  For most tools, if you double-click on the tool, you will be able to edit some properties of the tool.  For instance, when you double click the polygon tool, you can select star or polygon and the number of sides.

Design Panels In addition to the toolbar and menu, you will also use the design panels in Freehand.  Functions like stroke and fill colors will be set in the design panels of Freehand.   Design Panels

Open your Freehand. At CAM high school, the program should be on your Application Launcher so that you can start to play.   In this tutorial, we will practice:

We'll start with some basic shapes.
