Before starting a search

Before starting your search, think about how you might define your information needs in a single short sentence.

  Action Example
1 Identify your search ideas.  I need information on the type of mouse used with a computer.
2 Select key search terms.  mouse, computer mouse, mousepad
3 Combine key terms using AND, OR, and NOT to indicate relationships. Avoid using special characters, except hyphens (-) and ampersands (&), in your search terms.
